Practically everyone has a name. So why do so many people refer to their significant others as “he” or “she,” especially when it’s not crystal clear who they are talking about? My dad used to do that when talking about his second wife. Out of the blue, he would say something like “She’s going to stop off at the store.” I would say, “Who? The PRONOUN??” How demeaning.
(My dad was an otherwise wonderful man, and I miss him every day. Rest in peace, Dad.)
